SAN FRANCISCO, September 17, 2020 / PRNewswire / – The International Design Excellence Awards (IDEA) unveiled its 2020 winners during its ceremony live on September 16, honoring the industrial design firm Whipsaw, Inc. with five awards.

Most notably, Whipsaw won a gold medal in the Sports and Recreation category for his revolutionary design of the Tonal bodybuilding system.

“Tonal represents a well-resolved integration of human factors requirements, content experience, and substantial mechanical challenges into a home strength training solution that requires a very minimal footprint. This product is particularly resonant given that we are judging during a pandemic ”, declares Juré IDÉE 2020 Jonas Becker.

Whipsaw also won two silver awards, one for stylish and accessible Cisco Meraki MV Security Camera Line, and another for the compact Google Trekker digital world mapping device.

Whipsaw Sophisticated Bronze Medal Award Winner Glint Hero lighting system which directs the light anywhere without moving the luminaire, and EGG Ceribell, a life-saving portable EEG in a headband form factor that converts brain waves into sound.

The Society of Industrial Designers of America (IDSA) launched IDEA to annually recognize excellence in overall design as measured by innovation, aesthetics, and user, customer and societal benefits across many disciplines. IDEA has since grown into one of the most anticipated and prestigious design competitions in the world. This year, IDEA celebrates its 40th anniversary.

Said Dan Harden, Founder, CEO and Senior Designer of Whipsaw, “We’re thrilled to win five IDEA awards, especially because IDEA is known for examining every element of your design, which makes it difficult to win, but it’s even better when you do it. 2000 nominations, only 124 prizes were awarded, so winning 4% of the world total on the 40th anniversary of the prize is a great honor. Congratulations also to our client partners who believe in our brand of innovation.

This year IDEA Jury was made up of designers, thought leaders and visionaries who reviewed nearly 2,000 entries from around the world in 19 categories. The winners were selected for their indelible contributions to society, the individual and the field of design.

“IDEA recognizes products and services that encourage, inspire and advance our industry,” says IDSA.

Several of Whipsaw’s other designs also made it to IDEA 2020 finalists, including the Uber beacon, the Ventir backpack, the Koniku Kore bioelectric sensor, and Bizzy & Martian domestic robots. Wednesday night’s ceremony preceded the IDSA virtual ceremony International Design Conference 2020, happening September 17-18.
