The Granite City High School Industrial Technology Program has been recognized as the High School Program of the Year by the Technology Education Association of Illinois, as announced on October 22 at the 28th Annual ITEC Education Conference in Bloomington, Ill. .

Chair of the Department of Industrial Arts of GCHS Billy Laycock (machining) and deputy director Tim moran accepted the award on behalf of the department, which consists of Jean Boushard (building / construction trades), Eric Hill (automobile), Mark Jones (welding) and Quick bob (electricity).

The award is recognition of a higher technological education program that provides fundamental knowledge about the development of technology, its effects on people, environment and culture, and derives its educational content from one or more of the following systems: communication, energy use, production / manufacturing and transport.

“The most important thing is that every GCHS student has the opportunity to explore different elective courses and that we have created a direct path to the job market,” Laycock said. “As a department, we are working very hard to focus on providing an education that allows students to continue their education or enter the workforce directly.”

Students at Granite City High School have the opportunity to learn skills in automotive, construction trades, electrical, precision machining, and welding. Students are introduced to and trained in the latest equipment and technologies.

“The GCHS Industrial Technology Program has become a premier destination for tours of other CTE educators, lawmakers and stakeholders,” Laycock added.

In addition to several speakers throughout the year, each program offers its students the opportunity to visit various post-secondary schools and industry sites in addition to offering double credit.
