The only thing better than fresh ice cream is fresh ice cream that’s been fortified, and that’s what the new Buzzed Bull Creamery in Evans is all about. Located between the Lady A Pavilion at Evans Towne Center Park and the Columbia County Performing Arts Center, it’s the perfect place to serve up delicious desserts.

Each treat is customizable and there are endless variations, including options for restricted diets and with or without alcohol, making Buzzed Bull suitable for groups and families. Parents and children can order the same item, but one can get “buzzed” while the other stays regular.

Still, even the term “regular” is a bit misleading since their ice cream is some of the best in the area. Freshly made daily, the ice cream base is frozen in place using liquid nitrogen for a creamy texture and fresh taste every time. At -320 degrees Fahrenheit, liquid nitrogen not only freezes ice cream incredibly quickly, making it a luxuriously smooth treat, but it also creates a theatrical gourmet touch to the experience.

The long-awaited March opening was a dream come true for owner Tracy Frey, who has worked for years to bring the Buzzed Bull concept to her hometown. Frey worked in the food and beverage industry for years before embarking on a career in insurance, but she always imagined owning a business focused on fortified ice cream. Buzzed Bull helped her make her dream come true.

Frey saw the need for a dessert spot in Columbia County with customizable, dairy-free options, so this seemed like a timely opportunity to serve his community. A focus on community permeates every aspect of its business: not only do they use Buona Caffe coffee, but there is a full selection of liquor from the 2nd City Distilling Company. Each item on the Buzzed Bull menu combines a house liquor (if the treat is buzzed) or 2nd City Distilling Company liquor can be substituted at no additional cost, providing a way to support two local businesses at the same time.

One of the most popular menu items is Death By Chocolate, whether in ice cream or milkshake form, fortified or not. It includes a chocolate ice cream base with chocolate chips, brownie pieces, and chocolate sauce on top. The house liquor for the decadent combo is 360 Double Chocolate Vodka, and countless variations of toppings and alcohol can be changed or substituted to create your dream buzzed or un-burned dessert.

SIP – Wine Tasting Room

The newest addition to the downtown drink scene is music to wine lovers’ ears. Taste Wine Room is a wine bar and retail space with a great modern and industrial vibe. When Mark and Randi Guillory and Justin Reeves started thinking about bringing something like this to the region, they, like the rest of the world, had no idea that a pandemic would set the project back for a few years. . That’s why the buzz around the March opening was for good reason.

The space alone is worth the detour. It has a stunning wooden bar and tables, leather chairs, cozy industrial lighting, and exposed antique brick walls that reveal a glimpse into Randi Guillory’s creative mind. Located on the corner of Broad Street and James Brown Boulevard, it’s easy to get to for a pre-theatre drink or a nightcap to end the evening.

When asked how he got into wine, Mark Guillory quipped, “I had a Catholic grandmother.” In other words, the fruit of the vine runs in that man’s blood. His passion and knowledge of wine styles and history is showcased in the curated selection that offers a little something for everyone – red, white or sparkling. The rotation provides the opportunity to try new things on each visit.

You don’t have to be a wine expert either. The knowledgeable and friendly staff in the Taste Wine Room will be able to offer suggestions for those wishing to experiment. Wines by the glass can be purchased by the bottle, so if you find something special, purchases are available through the retail side of the business.

Of course, the menu features an even longer bottle list than the tasting one and classic bites for the perfect pairing. Pizzas as well as charcuterie and cheese platters are prepared in-house by wonderful chefs to accompany your chosen drink.

If you want to learn more about wine as a whole, there are regional and varietal seminars. Tastings are offered at least twice a month, and if you’re looking for an evening of entertainment, check out the events calendar for music, live painting and more. Red or white, sparkling or not, Taste quickly becomes the place to have a drink with friends, for a date or to enjoy a moment of respite after work.
