It will soon be May in Music City, and finally, outdoor concert season is upon us.
Now that the Nashville area has two top-flight amphitheaters, there’s an embarrassment of great acts to enjoy under the stars, from Nine Inch Nails to Willie Nelson to Sting.
Still, a handful of massive shows will beckon audiences back inside, including Justin Bieber, Billy Strings and perhaps the most sought-after concert ticket of the year, Olivia Rodrigo at the Grand Ole Opry House. Kenny Chesney will close out the month with the second of several big concerts scheduled for Nissan Stadium this year.

May 1: Nine Inch Nails at FirstBank Amphitheater
The industrial rock giants – inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2020 – have just embarked on their first tour in four years.
May 3-4: Van Morrison at Ryman Auditorium
The legendary singer-songwriter returns to the Ryman with a two-night adventure after a busy 2021, during which he released a new album and contributed score and songs to the Oscar-nominated film ‘Belfast’ .
May 6: Willie Nelson and his family at the FirstBank Amphitheater
Nelson turned 89 on Friday, and to celebrate he released a new album, ‘A Beautiful Time’.
May 6-8: Billy Strings at Ryman Auditorium
Further cementing his status as the new star of the Americana/roots music crossover, Billy Strings mounts a three-night adventure at the mother church of country music.
May 10: Olivia Rodrigo at the Grand Ole Opry House
The new pop music superstar – named best new artist at last month’s Grammys – opted to play smaller venues on his very first tour. Expect a frenzy at the 4,000-seat Opry House for the “Drivers License” singer.
May 13: Ponts Leon at Ascend Amphitheater
The Texas R&B artist stepped out of his vintage comfort zone on his third album, “Gold-Diggers Sound,” released last summer.
May 17: Justin Bieber at the Bridgestone Arena
Bieber’s last stop in Nashville was originally planned as a show at Nissan Stadium in 2020, before changing venues and suffering multiple delays. Since then, he has released two additional chart-topping albums, ‘Changes’ and ‘Justice’.
May 18: Sting at the Ascend Amphitheater
Although he loves cross-genre projects and collaborations, the former Police frontman occasionally returns to a tried-and-true rock-pop sound, as he did on his latest “The Bridge.”
May 20: Haim at the Ascend Amphitheater
The sibling trio are finally heading out on tour in support of their stellar third album, 2020’s “Women In Music, Pt. III.” The trek comes on the heels of Alana Haim who makes a brilliant acting debut in “Licorice Pizza” in 2021.

May 26-28: Leslie Odom Jr. with the Nashville Symphony at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center
The Tony Award-winning stage and film (“Hamilton,” “One Night In Miami…”) star makes his Schermerhorn debut performing a mix of “Hamilton” selections, standards, and classics. other Broadway dishes.
May 28: Kenny Chesney at Nissan Stadium
