Five Eye Brewing opens in an industrial park

Sheet metal workers by day and brewers by night, Alan Atkins and Steven Verver have transformed a home brewing hobby into a full-fledged craft brewery.

After two years of pre-planning and another year and eight months of building their brewery, the duo opened Five Eye Brewing in November in the Ceres Industrial Park at 1920 Foundry Court, Unit B.

The Five Eye menu features up to 12 beers on tap, including IPAs like the Daily Grinder, Lazy Journeyman, Apprentice, and Two Checks. Also featured on the board is a Mexican lager called Muy Chingon, a Belgian lager called Finger Monkey, and a milk stout called Shade 10, to name a few. They also offer seltzers, Margarita frozen slushes and Micheladas.

Atkins, who has been a sheet metal worker for 12 years, said Verver, also a sheet metal worker for 16 years, introduced him to the hobby of home brewing after sharing his taste for craft beers. Both work at RAM Mechanical, Inc., also in Ceres. And while they’re not quite ready to quit their day jobs, the duo are relying heavily on the help of their wives, Anayeli Atkins and Samantha Verver.

Anayeli coordinates the brewery’s internal marketing and works on both events and activities like “Pop-Ups”, themed music nights, cornhole contests and food truck services. Atkins and Verver spent evenings and weekends making all the equipment and ironwork for the brewery. At one point, they called family and friends via Facebook for help with plumbing, electrical, drywall and other trades to help open the brewery sooner. And, if you’re curious where the name comes from, the duo once had a third partner with one eye. He is no longer with the company, but remains a close friend.

Currently, Five Eye Brewing is open Thursdays from 4-9 p.m., Fridays from 4-10 p.m., Saturdays from 1-10 p.m., and Sundays from 1-9 p.m. Details on events and food can be found at

The Ceres Chamber of Commerce will officially celebrate the inauguration of Five Eye Brewing with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday, August 26.
